Life || Highlights and Lowlights Of The Month

life as unusuals highlights and lowlights of the month

Although its a massive cliché to say it, but July whizzed by without a care in the world. I’m not even sure there was a July. Maybe it’s July now and not August. That must be it, what else could possible account for why I can’t really recall the last four weeks of my life.

Laziness and being too preoccupied with things. Maybe that, but I doubt it. It’s more likely to be a space-time-paradox.

Since it’s the end of the month, and already in to the next one – really?! Where’s the number for customer services of life? I need to report a fault in their laws of physics and planetary momentum – We should look at some highlights and lowlights. Or pictures. Either is fine by me.

Highlights of the month

  • Buying our tickets for Pukkelpop in August
  • Summer bonus month! Woop! Woop! MONEY!
  • Getting to meet another blogger friend – Amber – and then getting to show off a little of Belgium.

Insert customary proof that we are not middle-aged murderers.
  • Seeing Dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum. Again.
  • Finding some cheap flights to Dublin for the November long weekend!
  • Our new hand blender for all our soup and smoothie making.
  • Trying out a whole host of new recipes this month. We might have gone a bit crazy!
  • Getting an interview for a potential new job and making it through to the last candidates. Woop woop!
  • Ticking off another goal – a new piercing! Hello, neck dermals.
  • Playing a bit of Minecraft with Kris, even though the square blocks annoy me a bit, it’s nice to play together.
  • Running our first 5km! And then another one and another one and another.
  • Re-discovering old bands – Placebo – and listening to old favourites on repeat – Twenty One Pilots.

Lowlights of the month

  • Seeing Pork Chop struggle a little in the heat at the beginning of the month. He had his own personal fan, a cool block to rest on during the day and night and some juicy cucumber to keep him cool and hydrated but he wasn’t having any fun.
  • Work. It’s been particularly rubbish this month but I’m just thinking about the potential new job and not stressing out over work.
  • The disappearance of summertime. Seriously?! What the fuck happened to summertime?
  • Blogger and Disqus. Urgh, really, no syncing of my comments so now I don’t get emails and promptly forget comments exist. Hmm, do I or don’t I move to WordPress?
  • Mosquitoes. Again. I know, I mentioned them last month but the fuckers are still here. One bit me on the forehead the bastard.
  • Getting the news that I wasn’t successful with the job. Even though it wasn’t exactly what I wanted, I was looking forward to the chance to get out of my current job. Guess, I’ll have to think of something else and try to make the most of this shitty job situation – good holidays and good money being two things to remember.

Life || Highlights and Lowlights Of The Month

life as unusuals highlights and lowlights of the month june

I haven’t put a highlights and lowlights post together in a long time, so I thought I’d share some of my highlights and lowlights from June. I think I’ll do it again next month too, once a month seems good to me, instead of every other week, then never and then back to every other week. It gives me more time to write about other things that way.

June was a good month and I’m not just saying that because I can’t remember what we did – I knew I should have started this post two weeks ago when I thought about it. Next time. I’ll do that next time.

So, from what I can remember:

Highlights of the month

  • Many things about PinkPop festival – getting a spot in the quiet camping and actually being able to sleep, the sunshine, the tent holding its own through the storm, seeing Robbie Williams perform, discovering a new band to enjoy; Kensington, remembering why I love Placebo and buying their tee, getting home in time to snuggle Pork Chop before he went to sleep for the day.
  • Trying out an offline blog editor for blogging and feeling extra productive and less distracted. At least for a while. Although, I’m not convinced MarsEdit is worth it’s money – I’m currently trying the free trial – and might have to look into another one.
  • Pork Chop. He’s always a highlight.
  • Getting a bunch of cheap audiobooks in the Audible Birthday Sale, including a couple on my wish list.
  • The possibility of a new job! Eeek. I have a meeting on Friday to discuss the position, which I’m very excited about.
  • Saving ourselves some money by choosing to eat vegetarian completely instead of most of the time.
  • Giving the house a good clean, well at least the kitchen and the bathroom. It’s a start.
  • Running a whole half an hour!
  • Ice cream on a boat.
  • Discovering the town of Diest and exploring some more of Ghent.
  • Planning our trip to Warsaw in September.

Lowlights of the month

  • My phone battery dying. It was a sad time, I had to use a phone with a rubbish camera! Think of the Instagram photo quality!
  • Fruit flies. Oh the many many fruit flies. But, I have a pretty nifty way of trapping them and removing them from the house.
  • Waking up on Saturday to find I’d been bitten 10 times in the night by mosquitoes.
  • Spending the month having a bit of a blog crisis, if that wasn’t evident by my need to preface every post lately with blog talk. But that’s over now.
  • The news. Just in general. Damn that’s been a giant bag of laughs of late. Not.

Turns out I can’t remember anything else for the lowlights. I don’t even think we broke anything this month, we didn’t get lost or do anything stupid, which makes a change.

Also, since my phone has been on the fritz all month, I have hardly any photos and so I dug a few out from other months, let’s just pretend we haven’t seen them before!

Highlights of the week

  • Making it to week three of our running app and not dying – also the sunset I get to watch is nothing to scoff at.
  • Finishing work a couple of days early and heading home after lunch. Work win.
  • Having a little blog epiphany and feeling refreshed about the little space. It must be all the sunshine.
  • Finishing another audiobook – The Girl On The Train if you’re wondering and looking close to finishing The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection too!
  • Having to pop into town for work, arriving early and having half an hour to wander around the botanical gardens and enjoy the spring.
  • The tulips. All the tulips from last Saturday!
  • Watching Pork Chop discover that he can climb the blinds.
  • Going to see more flowers with a trip to the Royal Greenhouses Of Laeken.
  • Another Monday date night, involving pizza.
  • Inventing a recipe!
  • Eating lunch outside in the sunshine!

Lowlights of the week

  • Planning things for work and forgetting a step, so completely ruining all my plans. Work fail.
  • Having meetings to make plans, just to have less plans and be more confused afterwards.
  • Missing out on a chance to ride a tandem bike.
  • Many cooking fails – not realising that the chicken needed marinating, or that the cooking time for the potato bake was two hours and not one.
  • Getting the news that my Nan passed away last Friday. After suffering a stroke over two years ago and deteriorating ever since, it was for the best in the end. But still a sad time.
