Life As Unusuals || Lifestyle and travel blog. Project 365: Week 30

This week will be forever known as The One with all the Hamster Photos. I’m not kidding, there’s three of them. The only reason there’s not four is because Thursday’s sky looked quite interesting so I took a photo of that instead. This is what comes from forgetting to take photos. If only I had a good view from my windows, then I wouldn’t have to spend ten minutes snapping endless photos of my dude just to get one in focus. I wouldn’t have it any other way though, because now and then, you get a corker of a shot and that makes my cold heart melt a little.

On to this week, which will be shelved under “most unproductive week of all”.

Life As Unusuals | Lifestyle and travel blog. Project 365, daily photos, week 30, cormorant swimming in canal, Leuven, Belgium

Kris had the day off work today to take our bikes in for their first service. After dropping them off, we walked back into town to pass the time until they were ready. On the way back to picking them up I spotted a new-to-me bird swimming on the canal. He’s a cormorant! I’ve never seen one before, probably because we don’t head down by the canal all that often. I might have to make a point to head down there again and see what else there is to find.

There was big plans to continue on with our A to Z of Belgium today, given that we’ve only made it up to the letter D so far. E was all picked out, we’d decided we were going to cycle there and take the train back, the bags were packed, we were even up early and then I had a flat tyre.

By the time we’d sorted that out it was a little too late to head to Enghien, so we thought we’d just go for a circular cycle ride instead. We used the cycle-node network, chose one of the suggested routes that started off in our town and off we went.

Life As Unusuals | Lifestyle and travel blog. Project 365, daily photos, week 30, black syrian hamster yawning

My little man’s evening yawns are not so sexy when caught on camera. This shall be know as the time Chopster tried to impersonate a Tasmanian Devil. It’s uncanny, don’t ya think?

Life As Unusuals | Lifestyle and travel blog. Project 365, daily photos, week 30, crow flying over field, Leuven. Abdij van park, Belgium

Today was a quiet day at home with not much going on. This week seems to be going a bit meh, so I took myself out for a little walk to meet Kris from work and attempted to snap some photos of the crows. This was the best I got.

Chopster’s “hmm, I can’t decide if I want to come out yet” face. Tis the cutest face ever.

Chopster: What was that?!

Me: I have no idea, I didn’t hear anything.

Chopster: Pfft humans, they hear nothing. Amateurs.

It was almost another Chopster photo, but I thought three was enough. I may have considered photoshopping him into this photo just for the funnies, but decided against it because. Actually, I don’t know why, but it’s already Saturday morning as I’m writing this and it’s time to get up for the day (Kris doesn’t know that yet, so I guess I’ll just have to stick a finger in his ear or something).

And that’s this week done and dusted. I did nothing. My hamster complained about the heat, ate strawberries and got on the floor again. I don’t know about Kris. How was everyone else’s week?

Life As Unusuals | Lifestyle and travel blog. Project 365 Week 29

When you’re so organised and put this post together all week long, just to forget that little intro bit so it still isn’t published when it was supposed to be. Yup, that’s me. I was doing so well.

Anyways, it’s 7AM on Saturday morning, I’m trying to touch type this in the dark as Kris is still asleep, and it’s damn hot. I’ve taken to sleeping this other way up in the bed because I’m convinced it’s cooler down there. Is it? I have no idea, but there’s at least freedom from Mr. I Insist On Laying Really Close At All Times. Pretty sure Kris just expels the body heat and I absorb it all. That and his big head blocks the fan.

Enough about the weather, it is summer and all that. This definitely happened last year, and the year before that, and before that, whatever Twitter would have you believe.

I’m off the enjoy the summer before it eventually turns to cold and rain because Autumn happens.

Today was such a productive day. I started early and got all the housework out of the way and then managed to put a few blog posts together for next month. After getting everything done, I went to meet Kris from work and found little guy enjoying some nectar time!

We had plans to go out for the day, but it’s been a long week of early mornings and late finishes for Kris, plus he had to pop to work this Saturday morning, so we opted for a leisurely bike ride in a new-to-us forest just outside of town.

There were trees, many birds singing, the feeding of ducks, strategically backing away from said ducks when the geese decided to join and began hissing, and then there was pizza for tea. It was a good day.

Kris even caught himself some Pokémen, since he is, like the rest of the world, playing PokêmonGo. Except me, I sort of feel like the only person that isn’t playing it.

Most of today was spent reading and going for a little walk in the afternoon. Whilst Kris was catching Pokémon, I was getting a little snap of the blackbird pruning in the tree.

Look at this little guy! This little dude was crossing the path as I was cycling home this morning so I quickly stopped to get his photo. Which he so kindly obliged to and sat nice and still in the leaves.

Oh it’s hot. Hot hot hot. But it’s glorious and I’m not complaining, I’m just plodding around the house in my underwear instead. But my poor Chopster, it’s too hot for him so I’ve set him up his own personal fan to keep him cool and feeding him frozen mango (his most favourite fruit!) and peas in the evenings.

Oh and the mosquitoes. They are back and they are bitting me and I want to scratch my legs off. I got bitten on the face! Twice! And on the palm of the hand!

Life As Unusuals | Travel and lifestyle blog. Photo a day, life in photos, project 365, leuven heverlee belgium sparrows in tree

Another gorgeous sunny day! Heatwave or not, I love the sunshine and the bright blue skies. I stopped to take some photos of the sparrows this morning, there’s a whole gang of them nesting and living in the roof of this house and they are always sitting in this tree just by the cycle path.

Today was the Belgian National Day so it was nice and quiet out as everyone had the day off work. Except Kris, because we’d switched the holiday to Friday instead. It was another hot day so this was just a quick snap before retreating to the comfort of my apartment with my fan and chilled water.

Here’s to another sunny week and maybe a touch of rain to cool down the nights. How’s everyone’s week been?

Life || Photo A Day #28

Life as unusuals blog | Lifestyle and travel blog. Project 365, photo a day challenge, sunset in Leuven

It’s been another good week here and unlike last week, the photos actually represent that this time. How was everyone’s week? My was productive, relaxing and involved a whole lot more physical exertion that I was ready for. I’m thoroughly enjoying my little break from posting on here, and putting together some posts for next month. It’s nice to be ahead of myself again. That’s about it, let’s get to the photos!

Yup, it’s another on my way home photo but I quite like the way the bush has grown up the wall.

Life as unusuals blog | Lifestyle and travel blog. Project 365, photo a day challenge, cycling in the ardennes

Yes! The long weekend has begun! It was time to pack our camping gear onto the bikes, take the train to the Ardennes and pitch our tent for a weekend of relaxing and cycling. After cycling 30km of mostly uphill travel though, it was more like pitch the tent and die.

This photo is not representative of the real cycle ride. This photo expresses none of the sweat, shin pain, puffing or the over use of the phrase “you’ve got to be kidding me” every time there was another winding hill in front.

10th July

Life as unusuals blog | Lifestyle and travel blog. Project 365, photo a day challenge, honey fungus

We had planned to camp for two nights, but that was before reality told us that we are, in fact, amateur cyclists and do not have the calf muscles to go another 10-15km today and then cycle back the 45km on the Monday. Instead, we called it a weekend and decided to cycle home instead. I did find cool fungi on the way though, which, I think, is honey fungus. But I could be talking total BS there so don’t quote me on that.

I’m still pretty damn stoked that we even cycled it all in the first place!

11th July

Life as unusuals blog | Lifestyle and travel blog. Project 365, photo a day challenge, sunset in Leuven Belgium

Ahh, the recovery day, which involved much sofa time and a bit of leaning out of the window to get a photo of the sunset. And that was it and it was good.

12th July

Life as unusuals blog | Lifestyle and travel blog. Project 365, photo a day challenge, baby calf, cow

I’ve adjusted my cycle ride in the mornings to always make sure I pass by the cows down by the Abbey. This morning, I saw this gorgeous little creature standing all alone by the trailer whilst the other cows were over in the field. I’m not sure if he’s a he or a she, but I hope he gets to join the others and doesn’t just “disappear” one day. I’ll be popping back regularly to check!

Life as unusuals blog | Lifestyle and travel blog. Project 365, photo a day challenge, sunrise in Leuven Belgium

Today started off bright and early, we were up and out the house by 7am. The first in a long time, so to celebrate that, here’s a photo of the sun. Not quite a sunrise, but still nice and golden all the same. On the plus side, getting up early means there’s a lot of hours in the day to get stuff done, I could get on board with these early starts. Maybe.

14th July

Life as unusuals blog | Lifestyle and travel blog. Project 365, photo a day challenge, syriian hamster eating fruit

My main man choosing which snack he fancies. Definitely not the one that he’s kicked under his feet, definitely the bigger one. I find it quite amazing watching him dig through the box of dried fruit until he picks out something that he wants, who know hamsters could have such refined tastes.

That’s all for this week! It’s been a while since I’ve been so pleased with the photos that I’ve chosen to represent a week, I think this is my favourite week of the year. Here’s to good weeks for all!
