Photo An Hour || 23.05.15

life as unusuals photo an hour a simple saturday

It’s that time of the month again! Photo-an-hour time!

And, with any luck, I might even have this post out in time for Jane and Louisa’s round-up! Unlike every other month.

As with most of my photo-an-hour posts, it was another simple Saturday for us. We had to pop to the hairdressers, then we decided to grab lunch at a new place, wander around, train home and then my phone died and we were left in this awkward limbo of not being able to do anything with our lives because it couldn’t be documented.

After an hour, my phone was charged and life could continue on. At sporadic intervals, when I remembered about the photo-an-hour. The evening ended with a few sporadic photos and me uploading them and trying to pass them off as photo-an-hour shots.

Just another day in the life of us!

10am :: This was another “We’ll get up at 8am! We’ll head into work early and we’ll have plenty of time to get into Brussels in time for the hairdressers” Saturday. What it really was, was a “oh, the pancake place doesn’t open until midday, let’s stay in bed a little longer. Oh, I guess we missed that bus. Oh, five more minutes. Shall we have breakfast? Oh fuck, the bus, the hairdressers! Time to get up! We might be late…”.

11am :: We arrived at work, a lot later than planned. I waited around whilst Kris sorted bits out and sweated my boobs off in my weather inappropriate jumper.

12pm :: Waiting for the train. Running late. Luckily there’s the metro in Brussels!

1pm :: We arrived at the hairdressers just in time. I sat around waiting whilst Kris had his hair cut. We’re too cheap for both of to get haircuts at the same time, we’re also too afraid to go to any other hairdresser than here – even though it’s stupidly expensive – in case Kris gets a bowl cut.

2pm :: Walking back from the hairdressers and on our way to lunch. With all it’s glass buildings, the EU area of Brussels is pretty boring but I do like me some flags!

3pm :: Late lunch at La Creperie in Brussels. Aubergine, tomato and mozzarella crêpe, nom nom nom.

4pm :: After lunch we headed back to the station, stopping here and there for some photos and directing a lost couple to the Grand Place by telling them to “head towards the tall pointy building over there!”. Just doing my act of kindness for the day!

6:30pm :: Post-phone death. A cup of tea. An empty cup of tea in fact. This was the photo I wanted to take before my phone died, so I staged it an hour and a bit later. I could have made a fresh cuppa, but Kris was unavailable for kettle duty.

7:30pm :: After a few episodes of Pokémon we put our adult hats on and went to the supermarket. Highlights of this weeks shopping include: Spring onions, hummus, part-baked rolls and strawberries. I don’t even know how the doughnuts got in the trolley…

9:30pm :: We’d already hung up our adult hats for the evening, so it was breakfast for dinner and an evening of playing Cities Skylines together!

And that’s all. A relaxing Saturday of not a lot. Did you get up to anything on the weekend?

Photo Snapshots || Leuven In Springtime

life as unusuals leuven in springtime

What’s a girl to do when she’s got to pop into town to have an important meeting with her PhD jury member? What’s she to do when she hasn’t looked at the presentation in weeks, can’t remember what’s in it and is an hour early? What’s a girl to do?

Wander around the botanical gardens and take photos of all the spring of course.

Pfft presentations. Watevs PhD, watevs.

I do enjoy our botanical garden. It’s small enough and in the perfect centre location for a half hour wander around when you’re in the area. It seemed a shame to not take a look around whilst I was there and admire the pretty flowers.

And take photos, obviously. Which I then tried to arrange them into somewhat artistic squares, but failed.

I’m really enjoying all this spring that’s gracing blogland at the moment! It’s kind of perfect in my opinion.

Life || Lately…

Lately…

I’ve been hanging out in my PJs instead of leaving the house. I feel like being lazy, I feel like popping Pokémon on in the background and pretending that I’m working on blog posts when really I’m watching Pokémon. I don’t feel like going out, I feel like sleeping in, staying up late and not washing my hair.

Lately…

We’ve been ignoring our goals. Because I can, because I made them so I am in charge. See above point about feeling lazy.

Lately…

I’m running. Three times a week and improving all the time. You should see my toned buttocks. I’m not even sure if they are toned, but it doesn’t stop me asking Kris after each run “do you think my butt has gotten more toned?” and then doing some strange butt wiggle to see if it’s jiggling or not. It still jiggles. Dare I say it but I really like running – we’re not in love, we’re just friends, but I definitely enjoy the post run feeling. Not so much the post run sweat pits.

Lately…

I’m thinking about quitting my job, you know that PhD thing I’m meant to be doing. I hate it. I really do hate it. I hate getting up in the morning to go to it, I refuse to talk to people about it and I want to deny that it ever took place. Ignoring that I’m probably going to fail anyway due to lack of data, I still hate it. I took a step in the right direction and secretly applied for another job, just a part-time job, nothing fancy but something completely different. No science, no people who work in science and no PhD. I sent off the application a couple of weeks ago and I’m hoping to hear back, something, anything.

Lately…

I have itchy feet. Contradictory to the first point, but I have itchy feet to go somewhere, somewhere far away and very new. Asia, that’s where I want to be right now. No reason, I don’t even have a plan, I just want to uproot my life and take it somewhere else.

Lately…

I’ve been feeling better. Since the beginning of the year I’ve been floating around in a depression that I couldn’t seem to pull myself out of. Usually powering through is my way of dealing, but this cloud was more like treacle than air. But I’ve felt better lately. It’s all Pork Chop. He’s just perfect. OK he doesn’t know any tricks besides climbing on your face and he’s yet to actually come when called but he does answer to pumpkin seeds. It’s progress. I didn’t appreciate everything he could bring to the house until he brought it. I love putting my laptop down to watch him run around the sofa for half an hour and then ignore me in his box for the next half hour. Pets really do add something to a home.

Lately…

I’ve been thinking about blogging, if that hadn’t already come across with talk of too many photos and backlogged post ideas. I want to invest more time in blogging, but I want to invest available time, not taking time from other things to blog. That was something that crossed my mind with this part-time job, I would get more blogging time. I don’t know where I want to go with blogging, but I like making it into something, even though I don’t know what that something is. I don’t know what I think about blogging, I just know I spend a lot of time thinking about blogging.

Lately…

I’ve been thinking about Christmas time. Kris and I are off to New York for Christmas and I’m excited! If you have any recommendations or wise words to share, please do!

So yeah. Lately my head’s been full of things. What have you mulling over lately?
