Life || Christmas Through The Camera

life as unusuals christmas through the camera snapshots of the holiday season bauble

This Christmas, Kris and I spent it alone; both through our own choice and a little against our choice too. Originally, our family was to come visit us over but that never got around to happening and we didn’t make arrangements to go home, so in the end we stayed abroad for the holidays.

We have been wanting to spend Christmas just the two of us since we started our relationship so it was great to have a chance this year. We invented a little gift buying game – who can purchase the most useless present. I think I won; I bought a shoe horn for Kris and he bought me a My Little Pony Princess play set (there’s a long running pony joke in there). Aside from that there wasn’t much going on present-wise. I bought Kris two ceramic knives and some sweatpants, he bought me a impressively realistic pug dog teddy (don’t think we can handle a real one just yet) and the polar bear onesie from Topshop. Which is now half price, as always with Christmas.

The day was a quiet one, we sat, we ate, we had a little to drink, we Skyped our families and just relaxed. We cooked ourselves a roast dinner, ate it on our laps whilst watching re-runs of House and that, my friends, is how Christmas day should be. For us at least, but whatever floats your Christmas boat.

The pony may or may not have ended resembling a drag queen.

Life || Christmas Eve

life as unusuals christmas eve 2013 nightmare before christmas bauble

Christmas is but 1 hour away and I couldn’t be more excited. But for now, it’s still Christmas eve – better yet, our first Christmas eve in our new place, as British expats and most importantly to us: alone.

We didn’t get our tree until Wednesday where it sat, naked, in our living room until Sunday when we finally found time to get some lights and baubles. The tree is now decorated, with two less baubles already. We have already forgotten to water it once… We’re pretty novice at this whole living Christmas tree lark. The presents are wrapped, our last little bits of work have been completed, the ‘Christmas cake’, or two, have been baked and our party food dinner was a bust.

But hey ho! Let the festivities begin! Now to go to sleep so I can wake up quicker to open my presents!

Merry Christmas from Us!

And yes, they would be matching Christmas jumpers. We are that cool.

Belgium || Disney Frozen Ice Sculpture Display, Bruges

life as unusuals day trip bruges things to do ice sculpture display

As well as our visit to Bruges the city, we also visited the Christmas ice display they had on at the same time. I have so many pictures that I thought it would call for its own post and not with the many other pictures from the day.

The display was based around the Disney movie Frozen, but it’s not necessary to have seen, or know anything about, the movie before you go. If, like us, you know nothing, then you are just looking at some hugely impressive ice sculptures and freezing your balls off all at the same time. Seriously folks, it was -6’C inside, that’s cold. Really cold.

There was even an ice slide that you could play on in the display. We tried to play. Really, I fell over and slid down the slide kicking Kris in the back as I went along.

I’m quite looking forward to going again next year.
